Finger foods and no teeth

My Pedi said to wait on most finger foods because A has no teeth yet, but I thought babies could 'gum' soft foods??? I don't know what to do, she loves eating puffs, and feeds herself just fine.

    My pedi said that you would be surprised how powerful their gums are and that finger foods were ok.  DS has not had a problem yet. ::knocks on wood::

    I've also read that babies can gum soft foods just fine.  DD has her front teeth, but they aren't used for chewing, so she gums her food, too.  We've started out giving her cooked pasta, bread, and pancakes, and she does great.
