Hi All,
DH is in the process of renewing his group health insurance plan. So we have looked over the different plans and decided the best one for us. My question is this....the health insurance plans states they exclude all fertility treatments and medications. They do however cover genetic testing. If you have or currently taking Clomid (or similiar drug) was it covered by your health insurance and if not, would you mind sharing how much it costs?? BTW, we are not on clomid or similiar medication right now, we are to go back to doctor next month if we have not conceived for him to start the "testing" process.. Also, my health insurance does cover an RE, there is only one in my area, but he is covered under our plan.
Thanks for your help.
Re: Clomid and Health Insurance ??
Our insurance only covers diagnoses beyond that we pay for. They do cover some meds but only 50% of the co-pay which is basically nothing. (example, my injections without insurance would have cost us $1200 but with the 50% co-pay it was less than $1100....so while it's something it's not a huge difference).
They did not cover clomid and, if I remember correctly, it was $50.
My insurance coverage is diagnostic only so they said anything they do while trying to do an IUI or IVF is not covered. So my dr said before I could take Femara they had to do a blood pregnancy test and even though the insurance would normally pay for a beta they won't b/c its for an IUI.
Oddly my dh has been taking clomid b/c he has low testosterone and his insurance wouldn't pay for it either. It was about $50ish dollars for 15 tablets. I see something on the TTCAL board about Walmart having it really cheap - I just haven't gotten a chance to change the prescription.
