I live a 12 hour drive from my hometown and have for 10+ years. Sometimes I catch myself thinking "I want to go home" and then I realize that I am home. I haven't seen my parents since January and my sister since Christmas which is longer than we usually go without a visit.
Anyone else still miss your mom and dad? I feel like a baby, but I do really miss them sometimes. **pouts**
Re: Anyone else live far away from family?
My dad, who is my best friend, lives in Sacramento and I'm in Indianapolis... DH and I haven't been able to get away from work to visit since July of 2009! We're moving to L.A. later this year, though, which will help a lot.
I always miss my mom...she died when I was a kid.
I hope you get to visit your family soon. It's really hard not to see the people you love.
I'm right there with you! My family also lives 12 hours away. Last month, I got so "homesick", that I packed up and went back for the weekend. It was wonderful, and much needed. (And, it was a short enough trip to enjoy, but long enough to remind me I'm happy where I am!)
I know how you feel! Hang in there...

Jen and michrocc, I'm so sorry for the loss of your parent. I can't imagine.
I think that is part of why I miss mine so much right now though...they are getting to that age where I realize they won't be here forever and that makes the distance worse. (Although I get that I could have lost them at any age.)
Anyway, I hope there are plane tickets in all of our futures!
We are a 4-5 hour (non-stop) plane flight from our families. It doesn't bother me too much, as we fly out there 1-2 times a year to see everyone.
I think it will be harder once/if a LO gets here. Growing up, I was really close to my grandparents who only lived 10 minutes away. I'm sad to think that our LOs won't have a strong grandparent influence.

I completely agree with this. I was much more ok with the distance before we had DS. Now I miss them on my own behalf and his.
Yep, I'm over a 1000 miles from my mom and about 1200 from my brother. It sucks that we're all spread out. Fortunately my DH works for a large airline and I can visit whenever I want for free, and we talk EVERY.DAY. on the phone. It's been 6 years for me and since my loss is the only time I've really been homesick. My "home" doesn't really exist anymore though since my dad passed and my mom is living with a new guy in a new place.
I do NOT get sad over the fact that I'm also 1000 miles from my IL's, and neither does DH!!!!
