Tampon question: Maybe TMI

Does it ever hurt to insert or pull out tampons?  I mean it literally feels like its rubbing me raw every time I put in or take one out.  I'm using a regular sized one because it's not super heavy flow, but it still hurts like hell.  I absolutely loathe the idea of pads...so I'm trying to avoid it as much as I can.

Did this happen with a specific brand for you? I use Playtex because they're easy to insert.  Tampax always feel like I don't get them up there far enough or I feel like if I go further I'll lose my grip on that stupid cardboard applicator.

Sorry TMI...but I need to know.  Where else can I ask?  :-)

I'd say don't use the cardboard ones - I use Playtex Gentle Glide and I find they are much easier to put in b/c the applicator is smooth plastic.  I'm with you - I hate Tampax!

As for when you take it out...the only time I experience any discomfort is when its toward the end of my cycle and its kind of - uhm - dry...for lack of a better term.  Sometimes, I'll use a lightweight pad instead the last day or two of my AF to avoid this discomfort.

  • Me too on all fronts.  I use a pantyliner or light pad for the last few days and the first few, but it's filling a tampon now and it's still sore.  Maybe I'll just use pads this time (ick!) and let it "heal" up and hopefully next time it'll be fine.  Sheesh.

  • is it every time or just this month?  if its just this month, I'd take a day off and switch to pads (I've had this happen before...once it gets irritated, tampons just irritate it more and more).  Also, it could be the beginnings of a yeast infection or something...those usually make me feel raw like that :(  if its every month, try a different brand, use the smallest size you can for your flow and see how it goes next month...and if sex hurts too, call your doc.
  • It usually happens at the end of AF each month, like it's drier than normal or something...so I just switch to pantyliners then.  But this is like day 3 of typically and 8 day period.  So it's way earlier and WAY sorer than it had been.

This happens to me at the end of my cycles when I have a very light flow.

  • A couple of weeks ago (like the week before Memorial Day) I could feel one coming on so I took Diflucan.  I wonder if it dries you out and maybe the effects are still there.  Ugh.  Why is being a chick such a pain in the arse?

  • For me, only when it's near the beginning or end and the flow is really light.

I've, uh, switched to a cup and they are so so so much better I don't think I'll ever go back to a tampon.

What is this "cup" you speak of?  :-)  I've never heard of it.
