Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How soon do you go get LO in the mornings

when they wake? DD will talk to herself and play in her crib for about 20 - 30 mins before I get her up. She never starts to cry, but when she starts whining I get up and get her. I'm starting to feel bad about this. Honestly I never really wake up completely when she's playing and talking. DH usually wakes me up and says she is up. If he's gone though, I never wake up until she is whining for me to get her. Do you go to get them as soon as they wake up? (Note, DD wakes up around 7 or 7:30 and I SAH so there is no alarm clock or scheduled waking time)

Re: How soon do you go get LO in the mornings

  • Alot of mornings, I have to wake DD because its time to get ready since I have to go to work. Otherwise, I wait for her to cry or whine loudly for a few minutes. Some mornings I try to push it, so I can finish getting ready before getting her (its hard to get ready with a baby emptying your bathroom cabinet) but I can just tell when we are past the point of being able to wait any longer and then the tampons and toilet paper start flying.

  • i sah, for now, as well. i can usually hear him playing in his crib over the monitor. i'm like you & am not fully awake. i usually let him babble until i'm fully awake, contacts in, then go get him. like you, usually about 20 min. some mornings i dont hear him babbling & i'm woken up to his cries over the monitor. those mornings, i just throw on my glasses, grab him, make a bottle & put him in our room while i brush my teeth, contacts in, etc. then we go downstairs for breakfast

I do the same thing you do. I stay in bed or run in and give her a new toy and go back to bed. Once she starts whining I will go get her.
  • Like you, I usually don't get her unless she is starting to whine.  She may be awake for 20-30 minutes.

  • What you said sounds exactly like us. I might hear her, but I dont get up till she starts actually fussing/crying, b/c she'll happily play in her crib for up to 45 minutes.

  • If they're playing or talking to eachother/themselves...we let them do it as long as they sound content. This goes for naps and morning wake up.
  • I'm jealous of all of you.  My child only ever wakes up screaming like someone is torturing him.  And this doesn't just go for the morning...this occurs multiple times per night.

He does wake up and roll around and such after naps *sometimes* and we let him do that until he whines.

You're not the only one.  This is DS.  He's 12mo and it's just getting better now.  He just started NOT screaming when he wakes up, but he still never plays for 20 or 30 minutes!  He is on the go and he wants out of the crib... he will make noise until he is "rescued"!  :)

  • If the boys are happy and babbling, I let them alone.  If they're fussing, I'll go get them.

That's assuming they stayed in their cribs all night, which they don't want to do just yet.

The girls sometimes wake up before 7 and I dont go in there until 7:30.  So they usually end up playing in their cribs for a good 30 min.  They seem pretty content in there.  And when I go in, they are still not screaming, but I have to get them up for daycare.  I think it is good they can entertain themselves in the crib for a little.
