Switching from neosure formula?

At my son's 2 month appt (he was 8 weeks premature) the doc gave the ok to switch from neosure to a "regular" formula but had no suggestions.  Anyone done the switch and have recommendations?

Re: Switching from neosure formula?

  • We switched my LOs from Neosure to Similac Advance EarlyShield.  Their pedi thought it might be an easier transition if we stayed in the Similac family.  We didn't switch them until 6 months old, though.  They had no issues.

  • We switched to Enfamil Gentlease (Target brand) at 4 months with the pedi's ok.  I just asked around what people seemed to like and that's what we went with.  We didn't use any real science to choosing.

I just asked for recommendations from people who had gassy babies.  Neosure is very gassy from our experience.  We heard good things about Good Start Gentle Plus and have been on it since the babies were about 2 months old.

  • I am surprised you are getting the ok to switch so early. Our Pedi doesn't want us to change from neosure until he is at least 9 months old. Good luck on finding something you like!

I believe as long as they are gaining weight extremely well they'll let them switch.  However, I know the neosure is also good for certain development as well.  I shouldn't even say "let" them.  I've learned early on that my mommy insight and my instinct has helped my babies out quite a bit.  Mine were beyond gassy and crying on neosure and I researched a lot.  I went to her saying I know it's the formula I just want to know what she recommended.  Pedi loved Good Start and OK'd their weight from the medical standpoint.

  • It didn't matter to our Pedi that Aiden has gained really well. He is 12.5 lbs at 5 months old. She wants him on it to help him catch up to his actual age faster and for the extra DHA and iron. I think there are some other differences in the formula but I have no idea what they are. I wanted to switch because it is darn expensive!! Pedi says no though.

  • At my DDs 2 month appointment we were told to switch too and we switched to the Similac Advance and it caused her to be constipated. So much so she would cry everytime she went poo and didn't have a BM for 3 days. Plus she has reflux so after that the pedi said to try Enfamil AR and that has worked for us.
  • My DS was also 8 wks early. However, he was HUGE: 5lbs, 9oz. He is breastfeed but I supplement with formula. My pedi didn't recommend any formula either. My LO is now 6wks old and weighs 9lbs. I am supplementing with Parent's Choice Advance (Walmart brand). It is close to breastmilk.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions!  My boy was a bigger preemie too at 4 lbs 14oz and he was at 12 lbs at his 2 month appointment which is average for a full-term 2 month-er and ginormous for a newborn (corrected age) so that' why she said he didn't need the neosure anymore, although there are more nutrients in neosure than other formulas so...
