supplementing...wwyd?! **poll**

-->

my supply is realllllly not what it should be & im barely pumping enough for her 3 DC bottles. Then i have to feed her in the evening and at bedtime. So  come bedtime, theres hardly anything left in me. So I just started to supplement a bottle of half formula and half bm before bed. Its working great, DD does fine with it. So that got me thinking....

If im struggling to get the 3 bottles,  forget about it when she needs MORE in those bottles soon.

so would it be better to....

  • I remember when we were making the transition from BM-formula reading somewhere that even a little of BM is good a day since in smaller doses it contains a lot of the important vitamins/minerals for baby or something along those lines. Maybe someone knows what I'm talking about, isn't trying to do 12 things at once and can better explain. lol

  • When we were feeding DS 50% formula, we just did all formula at daycare and all BM at home. It was logistically simpler because I could leave a can of formula and 4 bottles at daycare, and they could make and wash bottles as needed.

    True... but I feel your pain! Last night I tapped into my DC stash because she seemed hungry and wasn't getting anything from me. Or at least I couldn't hear the swallowing noise.

    This worked for us

  • I only BF for 4 weeks, so I'm not sure about this... But I read you shouldn't mix BM and formula??

  • I am in the same place you are. I am only able to pump 8-10 oz during 3 pumping sessions away from LO when I am at work. I try to EBF when I am with LO - and typically only have to give him 4 oz of formula on the days that I am home with him. At daycare he is sent with the 10oz of BM - he is fed this first & then formula when he needs to eat more. Sometimes I wonder if I am doing what is best for LO - but I really wanted to BF for 6-12 months. This system has been working for us so far. GL!

  • I was unfortuantely in the hospital and unable to BF for about 2 weeks. During this time, we used my freezer stash and started running out. I spoke with a Lactation Consultant who counseled me to do 100% BM or 100% formula, because the benefits of BM were diminished if mixed with formula. So, we did 1 full bottle of BM, followed by 1 full bottle of formula as we needed it.
