Car Seat Questions...

How do you have the two car seats installed in your car? Currently DD is on the passenger side forward facing because I can reach her easier and see her easier too. Should I try and put the baby in the middle or would that be a disaster with a 13 month old right next to her?

We just traded in our CRV for a Pilot so we definitely can put the baby in the middle and the seat would fit, but I'm not sure what is going to make life easiest?

Re: Car Seat Questions...

  • We have the convertible on the drivers side and the infant seat on the passenger side. DS has always been on the drivers side, so DD automatically went on the passenger side. It works out fine the way it is. I know I would have trouble getting DD into the middle seat without actually climbing into the back (we have Chevy Trailblazer).

  • DD1 is forward facing on the passenger side, and DD2 is is in the infant seat in the middle.  We have a Toyota 4Runner with the 3rd row.  We did it this way so that we can still put someone in the middle row (we often have an "extra" person with us - either my mom, or nephew or neice, so this is a good way to go..).

  • we have a teeny cobalt. DD will be forward facing behind passenger...new LO will be behind me. I could never fit them both side by side to have the newborn in the middle. We have two britax convertible carseats.

I really, really want a new car =/

  • We have a Mazda Tribute. DS and DD are 13.5 months apart. DS sits rear facing behind the driver (He has a Britax Marathon), DD sits in the middle (Graco Snugride), and I sit behind the passenger (with snacks, sippys, pumped milk, toys.....)

DH and I wanted to sit on opposite sides of the car on long trips (all our family is OOT)...hoping to increase the chance of one of us being less hurt if in an accident. Plus, the driver instinctively protect his side of the car in an accident - so we wanted a kid to be on that side too.

  • We haven't figured it out yet.  I have a Corolla.  Right now DS is RF'ing behind the passenger.  He will continue to be RF'ing when LO comes so I'll have 2 RF'ing car seats.  I'm hoping I can have one in the middle so DH could possibly fit in the car too.  We also have an explorer and I think we'll have to use the 3rd row and put someone back there.  DH sits with the seat all the way back and I don't think a RF'ing car seat can go behind him.

  • We bought a minivan when we found out that we were having another baby. I hated the thought of a minivan, test drove a million SUV's instead, and then test drove my honda and fell in love. We got captains chairs and both car seats are installed RF in the captains chairs. I would not put a 13 month old right next to the newborn if you can help it. My DS throws things over at his baby brother all the time. He isnt trying to be mean, just trying to play. I think it would be hard trying to reach to the middle seat to put the baby in the car. I'd put one child behind the drivers seat and one behind the passanger seat. Then, if you need to climb in the back for some reason you can sit between the kids.
  • THanks for all the advice.. I think we are going to do drivers side for the baby, but when people are here to be able to use the 3rd row, we will move the baby to the middle.

Ooh thanks for this idea! Can you believe I couldn't think of this simple idea of sliding the chair to the middle only when needed? I was stuck on having a baby on the driver's side and then one in the middle which I wasn't liking too much because it was going to be more difficult to get one in and out if in the middle.
