DD does the opposite of everything we tell her

Is that normal? She's 2...I know, but am I expecting too much for her to at least listen a few times a day? She always does the opposite. She runs away from us whenever we have to leave or get her dressed. I feel like all I do all day is tell her that she needs to listen and yell at her :( I hate this feeling...

Re: DD does the opposite of everything we tell her

  • I am right there with you.  My 2 yo DD also seems to always do whatever I don't want her to do.  She is also an expert at completely ignoring me when I speak to her, as if she has no clue I am even in the room.  It is incredibly frustrating but I am telling myself it is just normal 2 year old efforts at independence and control.  I've started trying giving her some sort of choice or consequences now if it is something big; like at bedtime if she won't settle down and cooperate so I can get her PJs on and teeth brushed I will try to tell her that if she doesn't do as I ask, she gets no stories but if she does we will read stories.  It doesn't always work due to the ignoring thing I mentioned before but it seems to help sometimes.  It also seems to help if I let her do one thing that she wants to do, like be the one to turn on the light or put her PJ pants on herself, that she will sometimes be more cooperative on the other things.
