Hi all-
Last time I posted here we were barely viable and 34 weeks seemed like an impossible goal. I am 30 weeks this Friday with less than 30 days to go until I go back to the hospital likely to have her within 3 days of admission.
I am trying to do some online shopping on bedrest but I don't know how much to buy. Chloe was measuring 2lbs6oz at 29 weeks so I am assuming she won't weigh more than 4 lbs at birth. How many preemie outfits did you guys buy and how long did your baby wear them? Or did you just wait until they came home from the hospital? I know it will vary based on what a baby weighs at birth, how long they stay in NICU, etc... just trying to get a rough idea.
Thanks :-)
Re: How many preemie outfits did you buy?
Congrats on making it so far!!!!
Honestly I would not buy more than a few. I only had 3 each and they outgrew them really fast. I brought my LOs home at just under 5 lbs. At first it was really warm so they worse newborn Gerber onsies, which run small anyway, and then it got cold so they wore fleece sleepers in preemie. Those sleepers did not get much use. If I were you, I would just buy a few and then you can always have someone run out to Walmart since they sell affordable preemie clothes.

My DD was born at 34 weeks. She weighed 4 lbs,7oz. We had about 5 or 6 preemie outfits for her. It was a momentous occasion in the NICU when we got to see our daughter wearing her own clothes!
She came home when she was 19 days old and weighed just over 5 pounds. By one month she was wearing newborn size.
Hope that helps!
Keep that baby cooking!
Length plays a huge part. My little one was born at 33.4 and she was 4 pounds, 6 ounces but 20 inches long. So she didn't fit in any preemie stuff at all, even though newborn stuff fell off her. Preemie length only goes to 17 inches in sleepers/pants.
Gowns are your friend. Gap makes the little baby gowns, and you can buy them in size "up to 7 pounds". They work perfectly, as there is in opening for wires and such, but keep baby warm!
We had lots of clothes. We enjoyed dressing her up. She had 2 micro preemie outfits (she was born at 2lb 5oz) which she did not go into until she was stable at about 3 weeks. We loved the micro preemie things from https://www.earlybirdsbabywear.com/#/home She wore a ton of the carters preemie stuff (I think she had every outfit they made). We really liked the snap suits if she is in the nicu they will need a place for all the monitor leads to come out. She never wore socks the entire time she was there. We also had some shirts and gowns from zutano itsy bitsy which were really cute. We also had tons of cute recieving blankets that we made her "bed" up with. The nurses enjoyed picking out her outfits and matching her blankets. We were in preemie clothes for almost 3 months though. The longer you stay pregant the fewer you will need. I second the gerber onsies. I got the iron on transfer paper and made personalized onsies for her. This one I made for her primary nurse!
Our NICU had preemie clothes that will wore. My family bought a few outfits for him and so when he was able to start to wear clothes we would bring in his own outfits. William came home at 4 lbs 9 oz and was in preemie clothes for about a month after coming home.
He then moved to newborn clothes and grew out of them in about a month.
Honestly, I preferred either the onesies and pant sets or the shirt and pants. I wouldn't go off and buy them now though. You don't know how much the baby will weigh when born or how long in the NICU. they kept Will in a diaper for the frst week before starting to dress him.
I delivered at 30 weeks so we used alot of preemie outfits... maybe 15 that we rotated between the boys. We did not buy them ahead of time, but MIL and my mom went out to get them as soon as the boys were born... then we didn't even need them for a couple weeks.
They came home wearing mostly preemie outfits, but shortly transitioned to very big newborn outfits. I would maybe buy a few outfits... 3-4 and don't take the tags off in case you don't need them.
