North Dakota Babies

Irrationally Worried

I went to Mommy & Me today.  And Miss K seems to be behind all the other kids.  There are 4 other 11-13 week olds.  They will all lay on their tummies and lift their heads and look side to side.  Karter won't lift her head for very long and she definitely won't look side to side.

She is also way smaller than the other kids her age, wieght and height.  But I am not as worried about that as I am the lifting of the head thing.

Am I being ridiculous?  I was going to email the doc but she is out of town until 6/20.

Re: Irrationally Worried

  • I can see why you're worried - it's so hard not to compare your LO to other LO's.  That being said, all babies develop at their own pace.  I'm sure she's fine and that you have nothing to worry about, but just for peace of mind it probably wouldn't hurt to contact your doctor.

  • I just read an email from FitPregnancy that said you should contact your doctor if your baby doesn't lift her head to 45 degrees by 3 months.  I'm sure Kiki is doing just fine!

That's good to know.  She definitely lifts her head to 45 degrees. She just doesn't turn it side and she doesn't hold it up for long intervals, more like short bursts.

  • Try not to worry or compare. I know, easier said then done. Alexa has held her head up since the day she was born but yet is smaller then most 4 month olds. Just goes to show how different babies can be and still be "normal."

  • Try not to worry! Also, since Kiki was early, she's not quite as 'old' as some other babies born at the same time and they change so fast at this age! Every baby is different, she'll take these steps in her own time!

  • I know it is easier said than done, but try not to compare.  I felt the same way about Nathan for a very long time, but he does things at his own pace.  He already stands up on his own, but refuses to stay on his tummy and makes no efforts to crawl.

Talk to your pedi about your concerns, but I think Kiki is just fine!

  • I agree with pps, try not to compare and worry too much.

  • Oh, Ashley!! It's so hard for us not to compare, but please try not to worry so much!  Mari's just now gaining a bit of head control and as for size, they all grow so differently.  If you're really concerned at all, call the pedi, but I'm sure K is fine.  (((hugs)))
