Question about diaper sizes...

Does it seem like your LO gets "stuck" in a certain diaper size for forever?

How long has your LO stayed in a size before moving on to the next?

The reason I'm asking is because K has been in size 3 diapers for SIX MONTHS. It feels like forever. I know the size 3 diapers go from 16 pounds to 28 pounds, and honestly, K is only 21 pounds so she's no where near the weight restriction. But, she's very tall. She isn't busting out of the diapers at all but I wonder if we need to move up a size for length.

The weight on the size 4 diapers says 22 - 37 pounds. Is there a big difference between size 3 and 4? If so, what is it?

I think that as they get older they stay in a diaper size for longer. At least, that has been the trend for us. We have just recently moved up to a size 4 to give her a little more room. I would say if she starts to leak in the 3, or you see that it isn't giving as much coverage as you would like, then go ahead and move her up to a size 4. Also, keep in mind that the # of diapers in a box go down each time you move up in size, although its the same price, so I would keep that in mind as well.

  • We switched J from size 3 to 4 when Target changed their diaper style and added the "cinch" in the back.  I didn't notice a huge difference in the size, they did come up a little higher, but that was a good thing.  He weighs 24 lbs now.

    This.

Abby is still in a size 3 and I plan to keep her there as long as I can just to get the most for my money.

  • We just switched to size 3..so I am guessing by ya'll's comments I can expect to be here a while.
  • We just moved to 4's because even though M is not where near the top of the 3 weight range, he started linking out of them.  I expect him to be there for a while.
  • Allie was only 21 lbs when we moved her to size 4.  Like Kennedy, she is so tall that the 3's just seemed tighter.  The 4's were a great move and fit her great!  I say go ahead and move her up.
    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

  • Yeah, definitely they do stay in a size forever.  Not at first when they are little and growing so fast, but as they get older and slow down in growth they will be in the same size for a while.  I usually move Caleb up right about the time he weighs the amount that starts the new size.   They just seem to fit him better even though the previous size still has his weight listed on it.  Does that make sense?  You could always buy a pack of the next size up and try them on Miss K.  If they leak, just keep them for later.  She'll need them eventually.
  • Kid has been wearing 4s since Christmas!  They are definitely longer (we usually use pampers) and fit better because he's a taller baby.  Would not hurt to try them.

    Also-if you're a pampers user-cruisers seem a little longer/taller than baby dry.

  • Avery has been in 4s for quite some time. I like a little room. She was only like 19 lbs when we started her in them.
