Seafood

Can someone please help me in figuring out about eating seafood? Which kinds are okay, which are a no-no (I know tuna or sushi). I am going to the beach in July and I LOVE SEAFOOD. I know I need to be cautious of some things but I just don't really know what. Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Seafood

  • You can eat tuna, it just has to be cooked.

The big no-no's are shark, tilefish, swordfish, and mackrel because they are very, very high in mercury levels.

Shellfish have the lowest mercury levels.

I think the actual amount of seafood per week that "they" say is ok is like 12oz.  I eat seafood at least 1-2 times a week.

  • Ditto Coastie.  And my OB actually gives sushi the ok.  She said its more the mercury in tuna than the raw fish that is the concern.  I'm going out tonight-yummy!!  I'm just extra picky about where I get sushi now.

Ditto.  You can get food poisoning from anything that's not handled properly, not just raw fish.
