So in 2.5 weeks I'm quitting my job. We've been on my insurance because it was cheaper and had the providers we really wanted. Obviously when I quit we'll have to switch to DH's insurance. He has two options and without going into any great detail:
Option 1: Kaiser - more expensive, super close to our house, baby delivery is next to free comparatively speaking
Option 2: slightly cheaper, lets me keep my OBGYN, and lets us stick with DS's pedi. baby delivery will be thousands of dollars out of pocket.
I just can't decide what to do. I know the economical thing would be to just go with Kaiser since we know we'll be doing baby delivery next year. I WOULD go with option 2 this year and then switch since DC2 isn't due until Feb, but I don't know that I'd feel comfortable switching OBs that close to my EDD, especially since I'll be trying for a VBAC. I know, I know - in the end it's our decision, but I'd love some opinions
Re: NBR: Health Insurance WWYD
If you can handle the out of pocket and you like your current OBGYN and Pedi enough, I would go with option 2.
ETA: By out of pocket I am referring to the delivery cost of your next baby.
Can you interview with a Kaiser doc before making your decision? This would allow you to discuss your plans for VBAC and your prenatal care in general. I'd do a cost analysis for a several year period. Look at the cost of having the plans for say three years factoring in the cost of the birth. If over time the cost of option 2 isn't that much more (may be the case bc Kaiser is more expensive) it might make more sense to stay with option 2. I'd also factor in if you plan to have more children while your under these plans.
