Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Blueberries

Ok for a 9 month old?  I thought the only fruit that they aren't supposed to have until a year old are strawberries, is that correct?

How do you give the blueberries to your LO? whole or smushed up, halved??

Are other berries (other than strawberries) ok too?

Re: Blueberries

  • I think they are ok if you peel them and cut them in halves or quarters.  Citrus is also on the list of what not to give until a year.

  • I started giving them to DS a couple weeks ago.  I just cut them in half.

  • Blueberries are related to cranberries, which are one of the foods that is least likely to be an allergen so they are fine for a 9 month old. I will say that DD only likes frozen. The fresh kind do seem more bitter.
  • DD is absolutely in love with them.  I give them to her whole and she scarfs those little suckers down!

  • DS is also a fan I squash them a little with my thumb and he devours them!

  • I cut them in half.  She's not a huge fan yet though.

  • It's been my LO's favorite fruit for the last couple months. Just cut them in half and smush a little. No need to peel, like pp said.

  • I am so excited to try blueberries with DD, but they do not sell organic ones at the grocery store by my house. I have to wait to get to whole foods as blueberries are the top of the dirty dozen list (12 foods that you should always by organic because of pesticide residue)
