Safe to use canopy over crib?

I've seen tons of pictures of really cute nurseries with canopies over the crib, but I was wondering if this is safe? Any thoughts?

    We plan to put a canopy over the crib, but as soon as he's mobile enough to stand up in the crib and grab on to stuff we will take it down.  I can imagine that a child could pretty easily grab on to it and pull it down, or try to climb out of the crib and get tangled in the canopy.
