Sure, while we're at it let's ban the phrases "Hello," and "Goodbye," too. Those are waay too overused.
Married 5/31/08 * TTC#1 9/09 - 2/11 after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!
IT'S A GIRL!
#2 EDD 2/5/13 dx with anti-BIG E antibody, seeing a MFM
I don't take one single minute for granted.
I just feel like it's something that's understood - I think we realize people aren't going to name their child based on what a message board of total strangers think.

This. And it's the most unproductive advice, ever. If I posted an inquiry looking for genuine advice, I'd be awfully irritated if everyone said, "if you like it, use it."
However, I'm confident this post wont convince anyone to stop saying it. While my bottom line is, it's his/her baby, and he/she should give the baby whatever name they want, I tend to offer my genuine opinion. I think a number of people come over here just to pretend they're magnanimous and diplomatic . . . "oh, don't listen to all the naysayers, if you like it, use it."
People come on here and ask opinions, then get ticked when the opinion doesn't match what they want to hear so the puppies and rainbows brigade comes on to make love not war, resulting in totally useless advice

Ha! I'm so glad I've been doing my kegels because reading that just took some bladder control! As some one nearing the end of my pregnancy and not having a single name we come close to agreeing on I have to say that "if you like it, use it" is pretty good advice!
