Where I grew up (WV), there were no full service gas stations. Since living in Mass for 4 years, I've noticed them everywhere, but I've never used one because I don't know if they expect a tip?
I asked one coworker once and she thought the question was ridiculous and that NO, you don't tip them. Then, I was with another guy and he gave the attendant a dollar.
So, do you tip?
Re: Full Service Gas Station - tip?
Good question. I often wonder what is the "proper etiquette" for that.
Anyways I don't usually tip if all I get is gas and they don't doing anything beyond pumping it. Today however, I was at a full serve station and the attendant said to me " before you leave here you're coming out back with me!" (slightly confused and kinda alarmed!) I said "excuse me?" The kid replied "your tire is dangerously low, you need air". He filled my tire and checked and filled the other 3 tires. All I had was $2 on me, I gave it to him told him I was sorry it wasn't more but I greatly appreciated his help. Maybe next time I'm there I'll slip him another extra $2 or so. I say tip a few dollars if they go above and beyond just pumping ie: clean window, air, check oil, etc.
I tip if it is raining, snowing or just freezing out, or if they wash the windows.
