Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question for all new moms

Did you receive flowers when your baby was born?

If you did, who did you get them from?

My mom and aunt felt bad after I was home that no one sent flowers to the hospital....they both forgot and no one else sent them....my mom said that all new mom usually gets flowers.

Re: Question for all new moms

  • I got flowers from my SO, some from his parents, my parents and 2 other girlfriends brought potted plants.

I wasn't expecting them, so it was a nice surprise.

  • Loading the player...
  • Pink carnations from my mom..We used one for DD's hospital newborn pictures.
  • My husband sent flowers, a dozen for me and 1/2 dozen for our baby girl :) he's so romantic...but no one else sent any. My mom bought me a mother's love ring from James Avery instead of getting me flowers, it would have been the same price and I would have the ring forever...

  • I received a very nice bouquet from my office and some roses from my father in law.  They were pretty to look at but paled in comparison to the beauty of my new daughter so the effect was kind of lost on me.  Also, it was another thing that I had to carry out of the hospital.
  • I got a lot of flowers, probably 10 different bouquets (some for inside and a couple flowering plants for outdoors). That said, I don't usually buy people flowers when they have a baby. It's just one more thing they have to take home from the hospital and they die anyway. I usually just bring over dinner during the first week.

  • I got some from my parents and some from DH's bosses. One of my friends also brought me a potted plant.

I wouldn't feel bad that you didn't get any- they were a nice gesture but a pain to get home with all of the rest of the stuff.

  • Just my work sent flowers! No one else!
  • I did receive flowers from a close friend, cousin and my grandparents. It was very thoughtful, but they died a week or so later. LOL

I don't think they should feel bad. What counts most is that they were there to support and see LO. :)

I didn't get flowers while in the hospital. The only flowers we received were from my husbands Union and the staff at his work also sent some.

I hadn't even thought about receiving flowers..... nor would I have thought to get them for anyone who'd had a baby.

Tell them not to feel bad! How can they possibly feel bad about anything when with you sweet little peanut to be so happy about!

  • I got flowers from my dad and my sil and bil. Honestly though, they were just a pain to bring home. Flowers are overrated lol

  • From my church, my in-laws, my BFF, a couple of friends, my aunts.

It was nice of them, but I was so overwhelmed that I hardly noticed.

I got three bouquets when I got home, not in the hospital.  IMO one of the worst gifts for new parents.  I JUST threw away one of the long dead bouquets that had been put aside and forgotten.  And now I have to deal with cleaning and storing a vase with rotted flower water in it.

Got an edible bouquet from work = great gift.

  • Hospital: My work sent some and one of DH's aunts and uncles brought a bouquet by when I was just going into labor.  His work sent an amazingly beautiful bouquet a week in when things started to get really bad (found out he had jaundice & hadn't gained weight).  Got a couple little outfits from aunts & uncles, but that was it.
  • One of DH's Aunts brought me daffodils in the hospital from her garden. DH bought me 3 potted flowers after we got home.

I got flowers from my ILs and grandparents, and everyone that came to visit me in the hospital brought a little gift. My favorite was the bottle of champagne ;).
  • one bouquet from my husband's family.  it was nice to get them and they cheered up the hospital room.  but, your mom and aunt shouldn't feel bad.  i bet you got lots of other fun stuff.

  • I got a small vase with a few flowers in it from my ILs.  We also got a couple of balloons.  That's it.  Most people, including my ILs, brought us meals at home over the next two weeks...that was awesome! Way better than flowers...
  • My boyfriend bought me roses and a balloon and my parents got me an edible fruit arrangement basket.

We did. My mom brought some for us, Dh's grandparents sent us some and my dad and step mom sent us some. I wasn't expecting it and it was a very nice surprise! Made the room feel more homey and less hospitaly.
  • Yes, from MIL when we go home.

I wouldn't  have wanted them in the hospital recovery room. It was cluttered enough as is.

Got an edible bouquet from work = great gift.

Me, too, after I was home.  Half of the fun was reading all of the warnings about  "this product contains SKEWERS which are DANGEROUS".

I really wouldn't have cared if I didn't get any though!

  • MIL sent some.  Then DH's office (he works in the Hospital where I delivered) gave me a dozen roses.  I didn't have room to bring them home with me though and we nearly weren't able to operate our car seat and a nurse helped us so I have her the flowers.  It clearly made her night and that was worth it to me :)
  • Oh yes!!  Lots of people.  The nurses were teasing me saying that my room looked like a flower store.

  • My  best friend got me a small bouquet of hyacinths-they filled the hospital room with smell.

My parents got my little girl a big bouquet of roses and carnations.

The flowers were nice and helped make the hospital room nicer and not so sterile-I would have liked it more if people had come to visit. We live out in the country and since we've come home from the hospital the only people that have come by are the grandparents so hardly anyone has seen LO except in pics on facebook.

  • My MIL got me like a single flower, my dad gave me a bouquet of flowers which is his custom then DH's work sent flowers to the house after we got home.
