Update: dropping to 1 nap

Well, I posted yesterday that I was mad because DS moved up in rooms at DC yesterday and they only have him 1 nap.  I am NOT ready for only 1 nap time per day (he is only in DC 3 days per week).  So I was all ready to march in this morning and demand that they keep him on his 2 nap per day schedule......

Well, he went to bed at 7:15 (a little earlier than usual but not much) and slept until 7am this morning!!!  He was normally getting up anytime between 5:30 & 6:30.

So, maybe I won't say anything?  I'm not sure.  I did tell her this morning when I dropped him off that we would see how the 1 nap per day thing worked this week and re-evaluate for next week.  She told me that they had tried to get him to take two naps but he wouldn't.  He is VERY nosy and the infant room has two distinct nap times where the lights go down and EVERYONE naps.  The 'waddler' room has some kids who take 2 naps and some older LOs who only take 1.  I'm sure DS was like, "Hey - that kid's not sleeping - neither am I!"   :)

Re: Update: dropping to 1 nap

  • I'm wondering if we're not headed in that direction sooner than I'd like. DS takes a great late morning/early afternoon nap...but his later afternoon nap is like pulling teeth to get him to go down! Yesterday he only slept for like 30 minutes in the afternoon and went down early (around 7:45...usually he goes down at 8 or 8:30) and slept until 8:15 this morning!

  • DD has been on 1 nap for over a month now. I just can't get her to take any more than that. The exception is if we're in the car in the morning. Then, she'll take a cat nap. But, I can't get her to do it at home. Her one nap is anywhere from 2 - 3 hours, which I know isn't long enough for her age, but no matter what I try I can't get her to sleep any longer. I guess it's better than nothing. She sleeps 13 hours at night.

  • When DS moves up to the next room, they drop it down to 1 nap as well.  I've heard that the adjustment is smooth for the most part and they just go to sleep at night earlier.
