Hawaii Babies

I wasn't prescribed the domparidone from my regular doctor.  I don't know anything about weaning off of it.

When I think about it makes sense that you would have to wean off of it, which is probably why my supply significantly dropped when my first prescription ran out.

Can you tell me how you're weaning?

Re: redshoegirl

  • I was taking it three times a day (i.e., three pills), so I'm just gradually dropping it down a pill at a time - if you're continuing to breastfeed, my doc recommended changing to two pills (1 in the morning, 1 at dinner time) for a week, and then down to one pill for a week. Since I'm not continuing to BF, I'm doing it a bit faster and only going for 2-3 days between each phase.

The reason you're supposed to do it if you're continuing to BF is because, as you found out, your supply can significantly drop - the reason behind doing it when you're not continuing is because it affects your hormone levels, so you can get really weepy or have mood swings if you just go cold turkey (did you have anything like that when your prescription ran out?).

  • I ran out on right around the time Elyse stopped sleeping through the night and started teething.  I was pretty weepy and overwhelmed, I atributed it to the exhaustion, but mabye it had something to do with quiting cold turkey.

I went back and read the info sheet I got with the prescription and it doesn't tell me anything about weaning off.  Very frustrating!

I'm going to stay on until I'm done BFing, but I'll wean when I do quit.

I'm thinking of introducing formula for when other people watch Elle when I run out of my freezer stash.  I'm having a hard time pumping enough on top of feeding Elyse. I'm feeling guilty about it, but after telling you it's DEFINATELY ok, I need to take my own advice and stop beating myself up.  It's a tough thing as a mama!

Where did you get the alphabet print with l-o-v-e in color?  Did you make it or find it on Etsy?  I love it and would like to find it for Elle's nursery.

  • Yeah, the info sheet doesn't mention anything about withdrawal symptoms at all, and neither did my doctor! I actually only found out by googling to see how long people took to wean off it if they were no longer breastfeeding. I've had a little bit of a hormonal swing just by cutting down on how many pills I'm taking, so I could absolutely see that it would happen if you simply quit cold turkey.

Ha! It's funny isn't it? I totally believe that formula is OK and have no problem saying it to other people, but when it comes to yourself it's a whole other matter lol. Anyway, you'd only be giving her a bottle of formula occasionally, so I don't think you need to feel guilty at all! I wonder what she'll think of the taste...weirdly, that's actually the part of formula feeding that makes me feel the saddest - knowing that my little guys will be eating something that tastes the exact same day after day after day. How boring for them!

Isn't it awesome? I actually first saw it here...but I'm a cheapass and refused to pay $45 for an unframed print that I could easily DIY. Stick out tongue So I did it myself in Photoshop - if you want, I can email you the file to print out. Just let me know what colors you want the letters to be (they're currently chocolate brown and then orange, yellow, green and blue to match our nursery colors, but I can change easily them to something else for you).

That would be fantastic!!!  Can you add the colors purple and pink.  The yellow, blue and rown are great.

No rush at all.  I'll pm you my e-mail addy because it's my whole name.

    Thanks a bunch!

No problem! I've sent you a (real) email - let me know if it prints out OK!
