Babymoon-Poconos?

DH and I are thinking of doing a long weekend in the Poconos for our babymoon.  We don't have a lot of extra cash.  Anyone have a good idea for a place to stay or actvities?

Re: Babymoon-Poconos?

  • I've heard not-so-great things about the Poconos - just an FYI.

  • There is an all inclusive place that a lot of people stay at that they loved-

  • Ooh! I want to hear the not-so-great stories! (Besides Gloria Estefan's)

I live near the Poconos. Stick out tongue

  • It's been awhile since I heard the story, but a friend went there for her honeymoon and it was cheesy/corny beyond belief, not to mention parts of it were disastrous - not at all what they had expected.

  • Ah, that totally sucks. I head there once every few weeks bc they have great shopping, but honestly have never been to a resort (other than the water parks!)

ETA: I hear of a lot of ppl honeymooning up here, but I don't get it. Probably bc I am from here and bc I like to vacation where there are beaches, whether it's tropical or not...I love the ocean and wish I lived near the beach! :)

I went there (1 of the Caesar's resorts) for my honeymoon.  If you like bad food, tvs chained to the walls, red light bulbs in the ceiling aka a massage parlor feel, carpet on the bottom half of the walls + mirrors on the top half, and rollerskating around orange cones in a gymnasium, then this is the resort for you. If you're not looking to relive a 1970s honeymoon experience then RUN, do not walk to another locale.

If you want the long version of what makes those resorts horrid, page me. : )

All the smack-talking about the Poconos is comical. I love it there and traveled for 2 hours from Jersey City (5 miles away from NYC) to have my wedding there. We got married at Skytop Lodge, it's quite a splurge at $580 a night, but it's all inclusive and an breathtaking resort. A few miles down from it is Frogtown B&B which is much more affordable and quaint. Don't let people talk you down, research it yourself.

You've experienced a non-Ceasar's pocono's resort. When people make fun of the cheesiness of the poconos, they're talking about the places with the champagne glass baths. Obviously there are other places to stay that may be good or bad and have nothing to do with the ultra-horrid Ceasar's resorts.

  • Been there.  Loved it.  I went for my honeymoon, but it was exactly where I wanted to go.  I am more of a mountain girl...don't care too much for the beach.  That is why we went there.  Yeah it was cheesy, but it was nice to get to know the other couples and we made a few friends there.  They have onsite activities, and also there is a huge outlet too.
  • Hi, there -

I am a features writer with The Intelligencer in Doylestown (I also write for the Bucks County Courier Times) and I'm doing a story on babymoons.

It sounds like you're from our coverage area and I'd love to chat with you about your experience, whether you decided on the Poconos or somewhere else.

Would it be possible for you to shoot me an email at nfrancis@phillyburbs.com if you're amenable to an interview. (I'm just looking to see why the idea of a babymoon appealed to you, why it was beneficial and what you did to make the time special). Then we can set up a time to chat.

    Thanks so much.
