I remember how paranoid I was about EVERY little thing when DS was first born. for example, I started off with boiling every single bottle piece (dr brown's) and now i throw them all in baskets in the dishwasher.
i thought of this because the other day he was chewing on something and i saw that it had some dog hair on it (regardless of the fact that we vacuum at least once a day due to a dog that sheds like CRAZY). if something like that had happened when he was MUCH younger, i would have probably boiled it before giving it back to him. this time around, i took it from him, blew the hair off and then gave it back. made me wonder how many other things i've gotten less worried about.
so, what about you guys? what things don't have you as concerned as they used to?
Re: non-clicky poll: What are you no longer as paranoid about???
Lots of things. Mainly what he eats. When he first started solids I was a freak about not giving him anything other than what I provided. Well those days are long gone. He eats anything and everything now (besides peanut butter, honey, nuts, etc).
Also I'm not so worried about him falling down/bumping his head. He's learning how to stand/walk...he's going to have spills and hurt himself. That's the only way he'll learn.
Lots...DH is much more paranoid than I am now. Mostly, though, I can pinpoint that I don't freak when carrying him up or down stairs now. I know it would almost be easier to drop him now due to the wiggling around, but I just feel better prepared for it, and I also feel like he's not quite so super-vulnerable.
And FYI, we had our dog shaved last week (long haired lab/border mix). We usually do it just before our beach trip so she dries quicker, but the last straw was Jacob putting a tuft of her hair in his mouth. Ewww..... (and we were vacuuming at least 2x weekly)
I pretty much let them eat whatever as long as it's not a choking hazard. I don't get totally freaked out about germs anymore. I also don't worry so much about them getting bumped and bruised (see my newer post about the ILs driving me nuts). I like to let them explore and figure out how things work for themselves (within reason, obviously).
I also don't freak out about them sharing utensils when they eat. Sometimes when we're in a hurry or not at home, it's easier for them to share, so I just let them. They put each others pacifiers in their mouths all the time and cough and sneeze all over each other. Why worry about what's on the fork or spoon?
Driving with DS in the car.
Cleaning a paci just b/c it fell on the floor. I just check it for cat hair and give it back to him.
Giving him baths.
Letting someone else watch him for a few hours.
