anyone feel BETTER while pregnant and breastfeeding?

I've suffered with anxiety and depression for about ten years now. I had severe panic attacks. I have been on medication for about seven years. When I became pregnant, I began feeling mentally great. Despite morning sickness, I was happy and anxiety free. After I had DS, I still felt great. I started talking to my dr about going off my tiny dose (10mg daily) of prozac because I felt my anxiety/depression was gone. Recently, DS has been nursing less and all of a sudden, WHAM, I'm starting to feel anxious and depressed again. I have been feeling little panic attacks coming on and feeling very down in the dumps. My life has been full of ups and downs, but whle pregnant and breastfeeding, I was able to handle them in stride. Has anyone else had this type of thing happen? Could my hormones be having this much of an effect? I don't want to go back to the way I was.

I had been treated for anxiety/depression a few years before getting pregnant and had been off the medicine about 2 1/2 - 3 years before getting pregnant.  I felt great until about the start of my third trimester and then I started feeling off.  I'm EBF and I think it's my hormones being out of whack that are causing my PPD.  I do know that PPD can happen up to a year after weaning.  It might be that PPD is just now starting to kick in since your DS is starting to wean.  I recommend talking to your dr about how you've been feeling lately and tell him you're concerned about PPD.  It may be that you just need some therapy or a small dose of something for a little bit to feel back to normal again.  HTH!  Keep us updated : )  I hope you feel better soon!!

It could very well be because your LO isn't nursing as much.  I know my PPD started when I weaned.  I would talk to your Dr and see what they have to say.  I hope everything gets better soon!!

I know a girl who sounds similar to you and I have heard of BFing quelling the symptoms of depression in some people.

I think I felt the best of my life when I was pregnant. I was always happy. I am breastfeeding now though and do not feel good, so I think it's the lack of estrogen. Although I use to be on the pill and that has estrogen and that made me really moody too, so who knows?
