Sleep training- night feeding?

We're not sleep training yet but the boys are on a 3 hour schedule during the day and then we let them wake us during the night (usually 3 sometimes a 4 hr  stretch).

Lately it's harder to get Oliver to finish a bottle (3oz) during the night.  I usually wake him up more- lights, diaper changing, tickling feet etc...  Should I not being do this?  If they fall asleep after an oz should I just quietly change their diaper and let them sleep?

I'm worried without the full 3oz they will wake sooner because they're still hungry...

Thoughts???

Re: Sleep training- night feeding?

  • they could be gearing up to drop a feeding and give you a longer stretch at night.   I would try not forcing the full bottle, and if they wake up a bit sooner but eat a lot at the next feeding, see if the next night they will skip that 1 oz feeding entirely.

  • This "not eating much at night" happend with the boys and they were trying to tell us they wanted to go 4 hours:)  If one wakes and not the other we try giving a binkie and if both wake we feed (between 3-4 hours, usually four, last night it was 5 :)  :)   :)  Sleep makes me happy! :) Today and yesterday they have been not so hungry at the 3 hr day feedings.  I am very excitedly hoping they want to go 4 hours during the day and 5 at night. But i think that is wishful thinking.  they are piggies, they eat 4-5 oz.

  • I'm hoping you ladies are right!
  • After the first 8 weeks we do not wake our twins up at all  after their 8ish pm bedtime, just let them sleep through, even if one does wake, we sometimes don't even change their diapers ( unless soaked)  -  just do almost a dreamfeed. Most of the time they are back in bed in 15 minutes. I would not prod them to finish a bottle. Whatever they need they drink and pass out again.

Also right at 8wks my daughter dropped her 2am feed and my son didn't for another few weeks, now they both sleep 8-5am most nights. If they wake before 4:30-5 we put a binky in and they usually fall right back asleep for a few more hours.

I would just let your LO's stay sleepy when they eat in the middle of the night and soon you may be happily suprised that they won't even need that feeding!
