Mats to put under Water Table?

I'm thinking about getting DD a water table. She loves splashing in the tub, baby pool, and the dog's water bowl. However, I want to keep the water table inside in her playroom.  Can you recommend your mat to help protect my carpet from being completely soaked?

Re: Mats to put under Water Table?

  • Judging from what I have seen DD do with her water table, nothing is going to contain that mess.  Sorry to be a downer here, but I just don't think I would put one on carpet.  She made a mess with an inch of water in her table right after a rain.  They go nuts with the splashing and pouring.  I don't even let DD play with hers without her water clothes on or a onesie and flip flops on.   I can't remember if you CD or not, but a sposie is a must here.  I had a CD get muddy because it was soaking wet from the outside, then DD went down her slide.  Ick!  Yes, they are messy!!!  Worth every penny too!  Do you have a place to put one outside?

  • When I was an infant teacher I always used those really cheap vinyl tablecloths from Party City but they got really slippery when wet!  But they were easy to scoop up and dump the water back into the table or into the sink.

Brandon loves his water table!  But I have to agree with hav2run.  We have ours on our front porch, and Brandon makes a complete mess of it.  It's only water, but it seriously splashes 8 feet around the table.  And he's one drippy mess when he's done using it too.

When Brandon uses it, I do let him go barefoot and he is good because of the concrete.  He now knows he has to put his shoes on if he goes off the porch (that took some training).  I like the porch because I can sit in a chair near him and we're in the shade most of the day.

  • We have the Little Tikes Mud Pie Kitchen water table, and it doesn't seem to be as messy as some tables.  Maybe you could put it inside a plastic pool?
