If you use a nanny I have a ?

Do you provide lunch for her/him?  We have summer nannies and have always said that there would be enough of whatever we left for the kids for them to have the same.  If they didn't want that, they were on their own.  What is your policy?

  • We always have food in the fridge that I remind her that she is very welcome to. I also always leave out some dessert on the counter for her to have. She typically doesn't eat much, though.

Last summer I tried to keep food in the house - like lunchmeat and stuff and she never ate it.  Which caused a lot of waste.   The girl I have this summer is a vegetarian, and I just don't think I can cater to that.  I don't know what to do.

  • When I was a nanny, I usually just made more of whatever the kids were having and ate that (chicken fingers, mac and cheese, etc). They did sometimes buy me frozen meals to make myself if I didn't like what the kids were having. Or sometimes I'd just have a bowl of cereal for lunch.

They always made it clear I could help myself, but I felt uncomfortable  - what if they were saving something to bring to work for lunch the next day and I ate it?

We don't provide lunch for our nanny.  She usually has DD out during the day and either gets something out or packs her lunch and snacks.  It is something you want to discuss in advance and see what your nanny expects.
