What to do re: fevers

DD1 had a fever a few weeks ago with no other symptoms so I took her in. They sent us home telling us it should pass with in a few days and it was probably a virus. It went away within a few days. A few days ago, she spiked a fever again so I took her in again. They were concerened as it was the 2nd time she'd had a fever with no symptoms with in a few weeks. THey did a few tests on her and they all came back fine, so they sent us home saying it was probably just a virus and would pass. I always though fevers were a way of telling us that something was wrong in the body. Dont viruses always come with other symptoms too, like diarrhea, vomitting, etc? She didn't even have a runny nose! Should I settle for that answer or take her for a second opinion? Thanks

Re: What to do re: fevers

  • When you brought her in, was it to your regular pedi or to like an after hours clinic or on-call dr.? If I took DD to her reg. pedi and he said we had nothing to worry about, I'd trust that. If it was in the walk in clinic/ER/another doctor from his practice, I'd ask my pedi for a second opinion.

What was the fever?  And actually your wrong about fevers- its not your body's way of telling you something is wrong its actually a good thing- its your body telling you its fighting something off, your body is working and doing something right.  That's why you dont always treat a fever.
