Hello all! I will try to get this all down while I am pumping and the boys are napping (HAH!). I got induced friday morning and had my boys at 9:17 and 9:42 that evening. I was able to have them both vaginally, despite the surprise size difference between them.
Once the Pitocin kicked in and they broke my bag of waters for baby a, the contractions started. They weren't too bad but they started to hurt really quickly so I went ahead and got my epidural. They had to stick me three times to get it right! And the first time they thought they had it I started shaking and my heartrate jumped. Apparently I have a very "sensitive and vascular" spine or whatever. Everytime they pushed the needle in shockwaves of pain went down my right side. I almost told them to forget it!
But once the epi was in = HEAVEN! I labored all day and didn't know it. They put a scalp electrode on baby A and that felt weird when he moved. I also got really sick to my stomach which freaked DH out since he got to clean puke outta my hair! Finally at 7pm they said I was ready to push. They wheeled me in to the OR and I started pushing and at first it was just tough work, not a lot of pain. But Baby a's head was crooked and stayed that way the whole time. Not to scare anyone but they turned down my epi so I could feel the contractions and it was so painful I wanted to quit! The contractions weren't bad, but they had to do some serious manipulation to get him out! almost 3 hours later out comes Aiden Christopher! I didn't get to see him and they had to reach up and pull baby b down to get him ready. All I could think was I couldn't do it again and I was going to have to have a c-section too. Thirty minutes of pushing and Logan Garrett was born. He was pretty much three pounds bigger than his brother, which was a surprise to everyone. They were shocked I was able to deliver both of them. (ME TOO!) I had a little help from the vacuum for each of them but that's okay. We were all released together Sunday night (the staff was impressed about that too!)
I was so exhausted and it was pretty much two days before I got some sleep. (PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN ABOUT VISITORS!!!)
The nurses were great. Aiden had to do some phototherapy time due to his jaundice. They both have to go in almost daily to get their bilirubin checked and their weights monitored closely. But they are both healthy and so friggen cute.
Now my milk is starting to come in thanks to frequent pumping. The boys get what I pump but they are 90% formula right now so we can get rid of their jaundice and get their weights up. I don't know what I would do without my parents. They take shifts so I can get at least 2 or three hours of sleep every now and then. When they leave I don't know how I am going to get any sleep.
First timers: A couple days after birth, you WILL break down and start bawling your eyes out. Take a hot shower afterwards and you will feel better.
I am so in love with these guys its ridiculous.Aiden is like a little doll..all stick legs and delicate features. He loves to open his big eyes and look around. Preemie clothes are still pretty big on him and he feels so breakable. Logan is a heft guy but just cracks me up. He is such a snuggler and has to sleep with his head out to the side. He finds his thumb pretty quickly but last night he apparently missed and gave himself a hicky on his wrist.
Thanks so much for everyone's support! I will probably not be on here for a while (hubs goes back to work and parents leave next week).
Hope everyone has a healthy pregnancy, delivery and afterwards!
Jodi
