How to do background check on Nanny & what questions to ask?

We have been seeking a babysitter for a while now, so I finally posted on Craig's List. I got a good lead, but need to doa background check on her. Also, when we sit and interview her, what questions should we ask? Any help is appreciated. My mom has been our only babysitter so far and DD goes to daycare.

This person would be starting off as a weekend evening baysitter and then transitioning into a PT nanny in the fall when the new baby arrives.

Thanks!

Re: How to do background check on Nanny & what questions to ask?

  • I would have to do more thinking about this. But keep a piece of paper close to you to write any questions that suddenly pop into your head.

I would just have a conversation with her. Ask her about her parenting ideals and ask her how she would handle certain situations. Ask her about past experiences and other employers. Ask about the ages of children that she has watched. You can ask why she wants this job and then you can see how she feels about children. Look for a passion for raising children in her voice. I would even have her meet your LO and have her interact with them. You need your LO to like her not only you. I hope this helps!
