What's with these Little Swimmers diapers?

We tried them for the first time on vacation last week, and I ended up having to wash my umbrella stroller in the shower with dish soap twice!  Wow they do not work.  It was like he didn't have anything on at all, it was dripping all over!  Anyone else have this problem?  Am I missing something?

Re: What's with these Little Swimmers diapers?

  • They aren't really absorbent, they are really designed just to hold in solids, so you don't get floaters, but they can't be absorbent, because then they'd absorb the pool water.

We haven't been swimming yet this summer, but I've been advised to change them into the swim diaper when you get to the pool, and back into a regular diaper before leaving!

     This exactly!

  • They only work if the diaper gets wet.  I used one once when I ran out of pullups for DS1 and he woke up soking wet.  So yes like pp said, only use for the pool then change them back to a regular diaper once they come out of the pool.

  •  They keep the poop from escaping while swimming. They arent for everyday use.
  • Well I sure wish it said that on the package!  At least I know now...thanks!
  • I'm glad I saw this before we went on vacation!

on an odd side note:  am I the only one who thinks of sperm everytime I hear the name "Little Swimmers"  <snicker>

  • DD wore one to the pool not too long ago. I took her out of the pool and sat her on my lap for a little bit.. and got peed on. It does just come right out.

I should've known better though because I clearly remember having splash days with the 2 year old class I used to teach. They all wore swim diapers and one time a kid got diarrhea while running through the sprinklers... yeah not a pretty sight.

  • Try a reusable swimming diaper. All swimming diaper are only meant to keep solids in, so this is a more economical way of doing it.

Just out of curiosity, how did you think they were intended to be used? Not trying to be snarky. Im seriously curious.

  • Is this post a joke?
  • We only use swim diapers in the pool. Before and after we use a regular diaper.

Good to know. I don't think I would have thought to wait until we got there to put on a swim diaper and then to change it as soon as we got out of the pool.

  • For $4.99 we got a reusable one from our local superstore (not Walmart). We saw the same swim diaper at BRU.

I am sorry but I am laughing. Did you think "Little Swimmers" were everyday diapers?

Kinda rude, no?  Unless you really sat down and thought about it, how would you know that something labeled "diaper" was not really a diaper.

FWIW, I changed DS into a swim diaper at my car, walked 1 minute to the spraygrounds, picked him up to get him wet, and he had peed all over me and himself.  You have to just try to change them immediately before and immediately after swimming.

You really don't know the answer to this? Why wouldn't it reasonable to assume that it would be okay to change your LO into a swim DIAPER before going to the pool and expect it to act like a DIAPER? Not an everyday diaper, obviously, but you'd think a half hour or so would be okay.

We do swim lessons at our YMCA and I always changed DS into his swim diaper and trunks before we left the house - it was only last weekend (2 months later) when I got him out of the car that I realized they don't hold anything in.

  • this post is full of win!
  • Dont feel bad, OP, I assumed that swim DIAPERS would hold in pee from the car to the pool too.  After being rewarded with a chest full of pee I learned my lesson, though, lol.

  • We change Zack into his swim diapers at home before we go to swim class, but I put a newborn diaper on him first (not fastened, just covering the key parts). Then, when we get where we're going, I slip it out and we're good to go.

Well I seriously thought they would hold the pee in too.  Maybe I wasn't thinking....still kinda seems like false advertising to me!

Anyway I'm glad not everyone thinks I am an idiot...I really can't believe how rude some of you people are.  No I did not expect it to be a regular everyday diaper but I did at least expect to be able to put it on my baby, put him in the stroller, and go to the pool, without him peeing all over everything!

This is a good idea.  I put G in her swim diaper and bathing suit before leaving the house and haven't had an accident in the car yet.  Though last week we were poolside waiting for the class to start and she peed on me.
