Stay at Home Moms

HOw to find playgroups/Mommy and me classes...

How do you find groups or classes to join? and things that don't cost much money?

I am unemployed as of yesterday and don't want DD to be stuck in the house with me all summer, I want to get us out and have some fun together and meet some other babies in the process.

Re: HOw to find playgroups/Mommy and me classes...

  • have you tried looking on meetup.com?  there are tons of mommy groups for all places on there.  i would suggest looking there.  good luck!

  • momsclub.org

  • library for reading/story time,  meet up like someone else suggested, a local parks and rec dept might have playground groups,  early childhood education center, ask at the hospital-sometimes they have postings for playgroups/moms groups.

if all else fails creat your own!

other things to do--the pool, zoo, minigolf/putt putt, beach, etc  you're sure to bump into a few other moms at those locations to make friends with!

  • I see you are in Charlotte.  We're just south of you, in SC.  You should join Charlotte Mommies.  I'm part of York County Mommies and it's great.  It's all part of a national "The Mommies Network."  There's all kinds of local forums and you can join area-specific groups to do playdates and stuff.  Here's the link:

  • I also belong to a group that is part of the mommies network.
  • I found both of the moms groups that I belong to on meetup.com.

And sorry to hear about your unemployment.  I was (voluntarily) laid off last July.

  • Hi there!

Check your local Libraries for free story times and puppet shows for sure!

I also suggest Googling your local Parks & Recreation Department as ours puts out a catelog every Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter and it's bursting with all kinds of free things to do including: movies in the park, walks, petting zoos, street fairs, historical home tours, etc.  It also has the dates/times for when our local pools open for public use and costs $1 for residents to swim daily for 4 hours!  There are also soccer, gymnastics, ballet, music, theater, painting/drawing/pottery, and crafting/sewing classes as well as swim lessons!  Super cheap!

I found Mom's Groups through my Pediatrician and Ob/Gyn's office as well as through women at Gymoree, Music Together, and Tumbling Class, the local parks and at the Library.  Just talking to strangers, getting to know them, and forming friendships.

    Best of luck!!!
