Bradley class recommendations

Has anyone taken a local Bradley Method class that they would like to recommend?  I am considering taking a class, but it looks like a lot of people just do them out of their homes, so I'm not sure how to choose one.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Bradley class recommendations

  • My husband and I took Bradley Method classes, and you're right, for the most part they're done by certified Bradley instructors out of their homes.  We LOVED our class and the whole Bradley experience, and would highly recommend our teachers in St. Paul.  It was two young couples who taught the class, but I think it's possible they each now teach their own separate classes, not sure.  We found them through the Bradley website www.bradleybirth.com, and really just chose them based on the timing of when we wanted to take the class... they were offering classes at that time.  ;)

Like I said, both couples are listed on the Bradley site... cannot say enough how much we loved these instructors and the class!

  • Thank you!  It looks like they are both still listed as teaching together.

A related question: after taking the class were you able to go through and have a natural birth?  As of now, I am planning to deliver at Fairview Riverside and am a little concerned about whether the docs and nurses there will be supportive.  I have my OB appointment tomorrow, so I will be grilling her :)

  • Sorry Genevieve to get back to you so late!  I usually just quietly stalk these boards every once in a while, and I haven't been back in a while!

I did have a med-free birth!  Though it was nothing like I was expecting, it was absolutely wonderful.  My labor just progressed much quicker than I could have imagined, which in the end is certainly not a bad thing!  I ended up getting to the hospital at 10 cm dialated and +3 station, ready to push!  My baby boy was born 20 minutes later.  ;)

I have my whole birth story on my blog (it's not updated very often though, warning), so if you're interested, definitely check it out.  www.agracefuldisaster.blogspot.com And if you are ever in need of a natural birth perspective, any help, any advice, I would love to help!  I'm pretty passionate about it, feel free to shoot me an email.  Alicia.Nordstrom at gmail dot com.

Also, I am a huge proponent of midwives over OB's.  Midwives are the way to go!  I loved mine out of North Memorial, North Metro Midwives.  I really just cannot say enough about how wonderful it was to go through prenatal care and labor/delivery with the support of natural-minded healthcare team.  They are just so supportive of your needs, they aren't pushy or patronizing.  Just wonderful.  Anyway, sorry about my rambling!  Best of luck, you can definitely do a med-free delivery, just do your homework, be prepared, ask lots of questions!  And definitely, Bradley was a huge part of that for my husband and I.
