It's a low grade fever. It's up to you if you want to give her Tylenol or Motrin, it would help bring down the fever. Sounds like her body is fighting something if she is sleeping so much.
i have had nurses tell me that 99 really isn't a "fever" but i know for Carson it is leading to one.
if she has been sleep/clingy/not eating well - any of these with a 99.8 temp i would say she has something working on her. plus body temps go up at night. fevers affect kids differently....Carson could run around with a 100 temp and act fine and eat fine all day long but the minute he hits 102 or above he stops dead in his tracks and cries.
i try not to treat a fever if he is acting fine and it's during the day when i can watch him and it's below 101. if he is going to bed for the night and he has a temp of 99 or above i treat it b/c he sweats and gets uncomfortable with fevers at night and i want him to sleep. i go in about every 4 hours to feel his forehead. if he feels hot i treat it again.
I never had to learn any of this stuff before because DD was sick for 24 hours at 9 mos and never again until this December. Since then, she's puked 3 times. So really, I have no idea what the norm is for her.
I'll just keep an eye on her for now and maybe give her some Tylenol before bed.

Not really. I know at daycare they go by anything under 101. My ped has always told me to try and ride out a low grade fever which that is and don't medicate until 102 unless very fussy.
It depends on your kiddo. I don't think she's been sick much, so I would keep an eye out. Also, since it's close to bedtime, I'd give her meds so she can be more comfy.
most kids run higher than adults for norm... general textbook rule.... 100-101 lowgrade, 102-103 moderate, 104+ high for kids. kids run higher in the evenings (or tend to , again, generalized rule). obviously varies person to person. I'd just watch her, not medicate.
Re: Is 99.8 a fever?
If you took it anywhere like her forehead, armpit, etc. then you need to add a degree.
I'd say yes it is a fever, but obviously very low.
