I've noticed lately that our male cat has started this strange behavior that's skeeving me out. About once a day he climbs on the couch, kneads at our blanket, and twitches his butt. At first I thought he might be marking his territory (he's not very territorial though) but now I'm starting to think this might be the cat equivalent of leg humping. He's got this glazed over look on his face and it's just kind of grossing me out. Anybody know what this is all about?
Re: NBR: strange cat behavior
Sounds pretty much just like happy kitty behavior to me. The kneading is just a contentment thing- most of my kitties knead blankets and fabric, and my boy cat likes to knead your shoulder while sucking and nursing on your shirt. Holden usually has that glazed over look when he's doing that too, and it just means that he's super happy (he's usually purring too.) Unless it turns into marking I'd say be thankful that you have a kitty that is lovin' life and just showing how content he is.
(BTW leg humping is not sexual in dogs, it's more about dominance/general happy excitement and cats don't usually show dominance in the same way so I wouldn't worry about him getting turned on or anything. Sometimes my male dog gets riled up and humps at a toy but nothing ever comes out or anything, it's just weird looking.
Ok this made me LOL, I know your cat has the same name as my kid, but its just odd to read..
