Anyone Using Similac Isomil Soy?

I started out using the Advance but switched to Sensitive recently and still don't notice any change with DS's gas.  He gets the most wicked painful gas and it's been happening more frequently now (I put Mylicon in his bottles too and sometimes give him Gripe Water).  I was thinking about trying a Soy formula to see if something about dairy isn't agreeing with him.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?  Thanks!!

Re: Anyone Using Similac Isomil Soy?

  • We use Good start Soy plus, and haven't had a problem with gas since.

  • DD was on the Similac Advanced but she was having terrible gas that kept her up for most of the night. We ended up swapping to Similac Isomil Soy and it worked good with the gas but sometimes she gets constipated because of iron in it. The doctor said we could put 1-2 teaspoons of dark karo syrup in her bottle when we noticed constipation and it really helps.

    DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

BFP#1: EDD 5/7/2010 born on 5/20/2010. A little girl named Emily.

    BFP#2: m/c 10/29/2012 EDD was 6/21/2012 Baby Hope was 6 weeks 3 days.

BFP#3: Twin B stopped growing at 8 weeks and 5 days. Found on 8/10/2014. EDD was 2/26/2014. Twin A is still doing great and due date is 2/26/14.

  • For DD it worked great for the gas and spit up but caused constipation. Same thing happened when we tried good start soy plus. Now we're mixing half isomil and half sensitive... so far so good.
  • Good to know about the constipation.  I think LO is already a bit constipated, he only goes once a day if that.  Sometimes I give him 1 oz of white grape juice mixed with 1 oz of water to get things moving.
  • Ask your pediatrician.  Ours believes (and has shown me studies to prove) that soy is needed in less than 1% of infants.  It's more likely that your LOs digestive system is just immature still- it'll work itself out.  Unless you have a true milk allergy, soy won't help gas.

Same as this. I switched to Soy as well. His stomach seems to be much better, although is does make the poop harder. My doctor recommended giving him a dropper full of water during feedings, so that is what we are doing.

1 time a day is good!! It's if they go more than 4 days you have to worry about. DS goes once every 2-3 days. Did you check with your pedi about the grape juice? Ours said a big no to anything like that this young. We just switched from isomil to sensitive because the soy bothered his stomach.

Our pedi is the one who told me about the grape juice, I wuold never have given him juice unless instructed by his doc.  I've only given it to him a couple times when he seems really uncomfortable.
