When to stop bottles?

We are down to only a night bottle just before they go to bed. When did you stop bottles all together? My Ped says to do it before they are 15mo since this is the age they become really attached to things/objects. I'm worried they'll be hungry if I take away the 2 or 4 oz they drink right before bed via bottle. What did you do?

Re: When to stop bottles?

  • My pedi says 12-15m.  I stopped w/ DD at 12m and had no problem.  She has a sippy cup w/ dinner and nothing after.  She doesn't wake up hungry

  • mine have not had a bedtime bottle since 10mos and do just fine STTN every night.  Their last bottle is around 4-5pm, dinner at 6:30 and bed at 7:30 and they STTN until 6-7am.

as far as "bottles" -i plan to have them on sippies at or around their 1st bday - we use them about 1/2 the time now and they are good with them. I'm more concerned with making the transition to milk - which we are doing now - and don't want to switch both at the very same time.

We still give them milk before bed (well, after dinner and before we brush their teeth).  We just switched it over from a bottle to a sippy cup.  Technically I guess I could give them milk with dinner, but I'm just afraid they'll be more interested in milk than their food.  So, since what we're doing seems to be working, I'll keep with it for a while.

i guess i am waiting for their 12mos ped visit, which won't be for a few weeks.  ped's nurse (my fav) says that either the first morning or bedtime bottle will be the last to go.  for us it will definitely be the bedtime bottle.  they guzzle 8-9oz.

sounds like you are already down to one bottle!  that's great!  i am totally new to this, but can't babies have a milk drink at bedtime, and in a sippy cup?  like a snack of 2-3oz?
