Hawaii Babies

Sigh... vibes please.

Hey ladies,

I'm not sure if you remember but after my 20 week U/S I had to go back for a follow up to get better view of LO's heart.  I went in and it was a long appt. as the baby was moving a TON... the tech seemed to struggle with the movements and kept moving the doppler (?) around and around to get the right angle.  At the end of the appt. she gave me the OK to go after she got the approval on the photos.  At yesterday's check up my Dr. read over the result sheet and the notes said "vitals appear normal".  She then suggested going to BC Woman's Hosp. in the city for another follow up.  To me, she didn't appear concerned but wanted to do this as a pre-caution.  I love having a pro-active Dr. and always said I'd rather be in the know than waved through as being fine.  She said the notes just weren't clear enough for her ("appear normal").  Anyway, I just got the call and they have booked me an appt. for tomorrow, apparently there was a cancellation so I got in super fast.  At first I felt fine as my Dr. seemed to be doing this strictly as a just in case.  However I now feel worried about this and hope our little guy is okay.  He's really active and the HB has been great throughout the pregnancy but with me being who I am I'm feeling concerned.  Thanks for listening.

Tara, I'm also glad you have a proactive dr! That's a great thing! Tons of vibes are coming your and your LO's way! Keep us posted and stay still LO so mommy can get some good pictures and so the tech can get a CLEAR read that you are A okay!
  • but those results are from like, 6 weeks ago, right?  if they suspected something serious, i would think that they would have called you in earlier. in any case, i'm sending lots of healthy baby vibes!  let us know how it goes...

I am thinking this way as well.

Thanks everyone, sometimes it's nice to just let it out and not to co-workers, etc. :)

  • Oh, I totally understand your concerns. It does sound like your doc is just being extra cautious - that way, you can be completely relieved of the worry. In the rare chance that something is not 100%, though, at least you'll know early and you can get started on an intervention as soon as possible. My niece was born at 1 lb 13 oz with a heart valve defect. She had surgery right away and is totally fine now... and that was the technology 18 years ago. I'd imagine it's even better today! Sending you lots of good vibes.

  • Sending you lots of good vibes.
  • Aw, Tara, try not to stress.  I am sure all is well with your little guy.

If, by a very slim chance they do find "something" then you can worry, but still, medical technology is amazing these days and even babies with heart defects, after some time in the hospital, are healthy and happy kids.  I have a sister and a nephew who both had heart defects at birth, both underwent surgery and both are healthy, strong, vibrant teens now!  And FWIW, their problems were not detected until they were born...

Pro-active dr's can make us worry sometimes but they are still great because you always want to be on the safe side. Try not to worry (even though it may be hard!) because keeping yourself happy will keep your LO happy. Lots of positive vibes your way and keep us posted!

  • Just wanted to say thanks again, it so helps to talk about it with you ladies... like I said I'm not about to mention it to any co-workers, etc. :P  I'll focus on all the positives and keep you updated.

  • Lots of positive vibes to you!  It's great that you have a proactive doctor though.

    Keep up updated!

  • Hey Tara!  I'm sorry this has unexpectedly come up again after being given the "all-clear" earlier.  How unsettling!  I'm glad they were able to get you in quickly, though.  The sooner you know anything (either way), the better.  I have a feeling LO is perfectly fine.  Smile
