Another great name...not!

Nayaquatha

This is a little girl in my daughters class.  The mother refuses to let the teachers shorten it to "Naya."  They must use her full name.

Re: Another great name...not!

  • Why should the teachers decide what the child is called? If the kid wants to be called Nayaquatha, so be it.
  • That is quite the name!

The child is 2 and cannot really decide what she wants to be called.  I do not think that the teachers should decide what the child should be called, but the parents did not want the teachers or children to call her "Naya."  Nayaquatha is a mouthful for children to say.

Now on the other end, I think telling the KIDS what they can call her is way out of line. The teachers should call her what the parents want (I am a teacher, I have dealt with this before) but it is stupid to expect the kids to do it.

I completely agree, you cannot really help what the children call her, but parents should call her by what the parents want.

  • I would assume it's a family name or something with their heritage so I'd probably respect the parents and learn her name. Huh?
  • Indifferent

I tend to think Naya is cute but I agree....parents should be the ones that make that decision. However, I am a daycare provider and I would never "make" the children say her full name. Half the time my kids don't say my FULL name and it's Ashley. :-)

  • Half joking:

Maybe the full name in her language means "Beautiful Trashcan" and Naya is the "Trashcan" part. I wouldn't want my child being called Trashcan all day either!

    But seriously:

I'm not saying she should have considered the nicknames, but this is exactly why I AM considering the nicknames.

  • That is an ugly name....at least the quatha part is.
