Nickname help needed...

I am not asking for opinions on the name because if we are having a boy his name will be Roger Frederick IV (I have known for many years that DH feels very strongly about carrying on the tradition and I have (just about) made my peace with it). But please help me with nickname ideas, my FIL, GFIL, and DH all go by Roger and it gets so confusing. I thought about using R. Frederick as his name but to me I hear Freddy and I just think Krueger... Also thinking about R.J., I know our son isn't Roger junior but it is the best I have been able to come up with...  Any other ideas? Go for some off the wall nickname and hope it sticks? It worked out for Tiger Woods (not that I want him to be my son's idol)....

Re: Nickname help needed...

  • What about Rick or Ricky?  Everything else is pretty rough IMO.

  • My sons name is Francis Edward Carmon IV.  I had no choice.. I was told before we ever got married that name would be passed on.  The Sr is Frank, the Jr is Eddie, the third (my DH) is Trey and my poor son we just call Tanner.  It's what we would of named him anyways.. it will be very confusing for him when he starts school I am sure.  but overall it has worked out well and my husband is very proud to of passed on his name.

  • I like the suggestion of Rick or Ricky.

  • I like Rick or Ricky, too. In that vein, you could go for Derick too.

Or Rogue if you want to stay closer to Roger.

I've also heard of a fourth being called "Quade" .

    Married my best friend 3/14/09
2 kiddos (DS is almost 4, DD is 19 months) and a puggle named Regan.

  • I really like RJ!
  • Maybe look at different languages and their translation for the word "four." Depending on your heritage it could be really cool.
  • I have heard of someone being a fourth and being called Cube.

However, I do not recommend it. Lol

  • RJ  is doable. I was also going to suggest Rogue. Personally, I couldn't do Rick or Ricky. I think just Fred is fine, doesn't have to be Freddy. Or even Ed/Eddie?

I'd probably go with something random. Otto was the name of FOUR kings in England? FOUR popes have had the names Felix? It's close to Frederick? lol.

This is helpful, and there are a lot of good comments, too.

  • I would probably just use something totally random like Hank or Ace.
  • Why does his nickname have to be based on his name?!?  Why not play up a positive attribute?

Open yourself up to names that fit his person and/or personality.

We call DD Monkey or Monks.  When she was born, she had monkey toes and then as she grew, she became a climber (at 4 weeks, she was trying to climb up our torsos).

  • I know of a little boy who is IV and they call him Quad as a nn at family gatherings but use Roger for school and other things- it works for them.
