Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I let DD eat almost everything I eat

Am I in the miniority? I just read a post on 6-9 about a mom who's som has 2 hives and she is calling herself the "worst mom in the world" cause she gave him a taste of garlic mashed potatoes. I let Tahlia taste almost everything.  Is that bad??

I did too. He had a really bad allergic reaction so now I am a bit more careful. As long as he isn't allergic I give it to him.

I don't think there is anything wrong with giving LO a taste of everything but if you do you should ALWAYS have benadryl on hand - just in case.

  • I usually let him have a taste of something off my plate as long as it seems safe enough. We don't have allergies on either side of our family though.

He has bits of cooked veggies, pieces of fruit, pieces of bread, toast, cheese, rice, and tiny bits of cooked chicken.

  • We do the same! We have no allergies and so far she has been fine with everything. The only thing I won't give is nuts and honey.

  • Noah gets everything we eat as long as its not chunky..But he loves most stuff.  I dont give him a bunch of new things at once..but I do feed him pretty much anything we eat.  Even if you only give them baby food they might have a reaction..just have benadryl on hand in case :)

I let DD eat almost everything, too.  The things on the no-list are: nuts, honey, chocolate, fish, seafood, and soda.  DH and I are both allergic to fish and seafood.
  • Oh, we let Madison have pretty much whatever we are having. Most days of the week she eats whatever we are having cut up in tiny pieces. It has really helped us eat better because I make dinners that I know she can share with us.

  • I read the same post and felt the same way. I give dd a lot of what I eat, she eats only solids now, no more purees. I have given her bites of lots of my food including ice cream. I must be the worst mom.

  • If you're all bad moms, then sign me up too, DS had some pieces of hamburger and tater tots for dinner tonight!
  • DD has had everything 'cept booze, caffeine  and honey... she only gets sweet stuff (tiny bit) when she sees her grandparents.

  • We give her a taste of whatever as well (which usually turns into her eating whatever we have) as long as it doesn't have nuts, strawberries or honey.  But we also have no family history of allergies, so that makes me a bit more comfortable.

  • they eat everything we eat, except nuts and honey.  they even have fish and strawberries.

they've even had spicy food (and loved it)

  • Marley eats anything and everything.

I'm holding off on nuts, honey and strawberries (even though that is killing me, it's almost strawberry season!) but everything else is fair game and she loves food.

  • I do as well-   I avoid nuts & honey-  and I also stay away from things like chicken or tuna salad-  but for the most part, he tastes it all

We were like this, too.  Now she gets everything besides nuts pretty much. Her fave is seafood! Yay! Lol. She takes after Mommy.

WHAAAAAT no booze? Isn't that what we are supposed to put in their bottles?

  • We never did puree's so he has been eating table food for awhile now. I give him what we are eating as long as it is something we have introduced to him.
  • We BLW so DS has always eaten what we do and I have never once felt bad about it.

  • I'm late to the game but at this stage I give DD everything we eat with a few exceptions (shellfish - family history of allergy, peanuts and anything super spicy like wasabi).

  • I'm right there with you.  Logan at least gets to taste pretty much anything I eat.  There are a few exceptions - really spicy stuff (DH and I love super spicy food and use a lot of hot sauce), nuts (choking hazard and allergy), shellfish, raw fish, honey, and anything that would be a choking hazard.

Other than that, it's pretty much a smorgasbord for DS and he can have at least a bite of anything.  I remember a couple weeks on this board that a Bumpie criticized another Bumpie for letting her kid have ice cream.  Seriously?  I'm still laughing at that.  It's ice cream, FFS.  DS had his first taste months ago!

DD JUST started "chewing" within the last couple days so I'll feel more comfortable giving her chunkier bits of food to eat.  She's got pretty bad eczema and we're still not sure what triggers her flare ups so I'm hesitant to try a lot of new foods.

I'm sure your DS will start eating a bigger variety of foods when he's ready :)

This.  He eats everything in sight.  I'm proud to say DS hasn't even tasted a puree.

I don't think you are "behind" at all.
