Wet diapers

So, my LO is 2 days old - we were just discharged from the hospital today. She's had two wet diapers in a row where there's been a bit of blood in her urine/diaper.

I've called her Pedi and am just waiting on a call back, but wouldn't mind hearing if anyone's had similar experiences.

Re: Wet diapers

  • I never had this with DD, but I think a little blood is normal for the first couple of weeks. I've read/heard this somewhere.

  • are you sure its blood? usually its uric acid (concentrated urine)...which is totally normal and kinda looks like blood
  • It's called a "mini period". When your hormones are clearing out of her system, it can trigger her first period. DD had it for 3-4 days, kind of a mucous-y blood in her diaper. We told the dr at her 4 day appt and he just nodded his head.
  • Her Pedi just called back and just said the same thing - my hormones are clearing out of her system! I wish they had mentioned this nugget of info in the hospital...I feel completely silly now!

Thanks for letting the reassurance ladies!
