Babies: 0 - 3 Months

My daughter is a bottomless pit.

Seriously, she is never not hungry. We supplement with formula right now because she was jaundiced. I will nurse her, and I know she's getting plenty, because I see it dribbling down her chin. So far I don't do great on the pump, but I KNOW she's getting a good amount. Then DH will give her a bottle of formula. Usually 2 or 3 ozs, mixed with breast milk. And she always flipping guzzles that too! We just did this, and then maybe 15 minutes later she was fussing for a new diaper, and when I picked her up she was smacking and rooting already. Maybe it was just because it was me and she associates me with food... but she ate AGAIN. Not like, a TON but I feel like she's never full!!!!

Have you tried a paci when she's acting hungry after recently eating? Maybe she just wants to comfort suck?

I did try it once, but she wouldn't take it. I'm wary to try again since she is already getting a bottle sometimes and I don't want to create nipple confusion. But she doesn't seem to have an issue going between the breast and the bottle... so it has crossed my mind.

  • Definitely look into a pacifier!  I had my LO on the boob constantly and all it did was destroy my nipples and give DS an upset tummy from eating too much!
Baby #3 is on the way!

It took multiple times if trying a paci before she would take it.

Nipple confusion is VERY rare. I wouldn't worry about it.

My sister was just here and suggested the same thing so I tried it again with a different kind and... she seems to like it. I didn't know nipple confusion was rare... they make it seem like such an issue!
