How long until birth control?

I really want to get back on birth control pills ASAP after DS#2 is born.  I didn't right away with DS#1.  How long do you have to wait....??  I'll be sure to ask my Dr. at my next appt. on Wednesday as well.  Just something that popped into my head now.

My OB gave me the okay to start the Sunday after my 6 week check-up.

My dr inserts Mirena at 8 weeks pp.  It says you can put it in at 6 weeks, but he prefers 8.  Not sure about bcps.

With my first I had to wait until I got my first pp period.

are you bf?  If so you can take the mini pill after 1st PP visit.  You can't do an IUD until 4 months though.

Use a barrier form even before 1st PP period, you ovulate before the 1st period.

Just to be clear, I'm definitely wanting to do pills and am not breastfeeding.  Looks like a variety of answers!  I will have to see what Dr. says - thanks! :-)

I just had my 4 week PP appt and my doc gave me my script for the birth control patch and told me I could start it right away.

I got my birth control (Implanon) at my 2 week incision check.

This is true!  I definitely wondered about hormones and all of that.....also, they always say hormonal birth control can sometimes make you gain weight....and if I'm working on trying to LOSE weight....well, hmm.  That is definitely something to think about as well.  I don't necessarily remember gaining weight last time I was on the pill, but I don't want it to make it more difficult to lose weight either.  I MIGHT consider waiting until I'm to the size I want to be.  We've used condoms before with no problems, so maybe we will do that for a little while.

This.. I think my doctor wanted to make sure I wasn't back in his office pregnant in a few months. LOL

I got on the mini-pill at 2 weeks postpartum.  That way, if we do wait until 6 weeks postpartum (we had sex 4 weeks postpartum after DS1) the birth control will have kicked in.
