2nd Trimester

Its a holiday...Do I call my Dr?

So, I am 23 wks 1 day pg.  I feel my baby (very slightly) usually every couple of days, the longest in between has been 3 days.  When I go to the dr and have an U/S, I see the baby move, but I feel nothing.  The last time I was at the dr (last tuesday) the heartbeat was strong and I felt her once that day.  Well, now it has almost been a full week and I have felt NOTHING!  I am freaking out and my DH says i shouldnt be.  But isnt it strange to go a whole week and not feel anything.  I realize I have never felt hard kicks, just very light flutters and I would think by now I would start to feel them more regularly and maybe they would get harder...but they havent.  Could this be still because the baby is so small and I am overweight to begin with?  I cant help but worry...a week is a LONG time to feel nothing.  I keep debating on whether I should call the dr on call and just ask their opinion...what do you all think?  What has been your experiences?

  • Do you have an anterior placenta?

Also, it could be the weight. My friend is overweight and she didn't feel a lot until much closer to the end.

The Dr has never mentioned what kind of placenta I have.  Yes, I think it very well could be the weight, but it makes me crazy when Im used to feeling her every few days.  I just dont know if Im overreacting or if I should go ahead and call the dr now.

  • too early to worry.  drink some water/OJ and lay down if you are THAT worried.  but until you are in the 4rd tri, there is no reason to do kick counts..
  • If it will make you feel better than call.  If I were you I would wait it out a few more days to see.

  • Have you found anything that you eat or drink that you feel the movements after? I know you said you feel just slight flutters, but thinking back...try to think if ever you ate or drank something that surrounded those movements.  For my baby, it is honey dew melon (or really any type of melon).  Every time I eat melon, I can feel movement.  If you have something like that, I would eat/drink that and see if there is any movement to try and ease your brain!! If not, then if calling the Dr will help you, then go for it. That is what they are there for.  No point you being stressed if making that phone call will help!
  • Not feeling regular movements at this point is nothing to worry about. Drink some OJ and lay down for a while concentrating on movement.  Personally, I don't think a phone call on a holiday is necessary.  This isn't an emergency.  However, if it's going to ease your mind call.  They will most likely tell you what we have.

If you're a little overweight and only 23 wks I wouldn't worry BUT, follow your inuition.  If you feel like you need to then, by all means call.

  • Well, I would call - really, the doctor on call is on call for a reason, so I wouldn't feel bad.

Also - do you know anyone with a doppler? I find mine reall reassuring, and if you can get your hands on one...

  • Hi!! You sound just like me! Yesterday I went back and forth about calling my Dr. since I hadn't felt movement in about 5 days. I finally called, and ,y Dr. asked me why I didnt call sooner Embarrassed. She had me come in, and a nurse hooked me up to a monitor for about an hour....and of course there she was. I was super embarassed and kept apologizing, but the nurses were super nice. The nurses and my Dr. both reassured me that if I felt like that again to come in. As a 1st time mommy I am clueless, so I felt so much better after they left. They had also explained to me there that I have a higher placenta so when the baby kicks they can sometimes be harder to feel. For piece of mind I'd say call your Dr! They might not have you come in but can suggest what to do to feel kicking. Who cares if it's a holiday..that's their job! Take care Big Smile
