Babies: 0 - 3 Months

when to start swimming?

When do you start taking your kid into the pool?

Our LO loves his bathtime, summers coming up, and DH's grandparents have a pool...  I'm just not sure when it's safe to do it?  And how to do it?  I hear about people throwing their kid in the water- but that'd freak me out...

Anyone out there do it yet? Or planning on it?

No, I don't plan on throwing my infant child in the pool Indifferent

I might take him and let him get wet, but thats only because I have a 3yo. He'll be in a head-to-toe UV protecting swimsuit and hat... But a lot of pedi's recommend waiting til 6mos because of chlorine and sunblock. Ask yours what they think.

  • We live a few blocks from a beach at a local lake. We are going to take him int he lake with us this summer. We won't take him in a pool though until 6 months because of the chlorine.

  • I will not throw my DD in the pool. But I did put her in the poll yesterday in a friends pool. She had sunscreen on (pedi said it was ok) and a hat. We got her a little floating device and she loved it. Was a lot of fun

  • Our pedi said that we could take him in the pool after 2 months. However, you can't get their head wet. She also said that her concern was not the water but the sun. She advised to put sunscreen on, as well as a hat.

  • no cholorine until 6 months.

Even non-cholorine can be bad because babies have trouble regulating their body temp. Even though my parents have a salt water pool, we are waiting until she is older for that reason.
