I know they say to use as much fresh milk as possible, but it feels like such a waste of this freezer stash I'm building to not use it (if I'm able to keep up with his needs when I go back to work). I wonder how many nutrients you really lose with frozen milk.
What are you going to do with the freezer stash if you wind up not needing it?
I'm debating having my MIL (who is watching him) give him frozen milk a day a week or something (and freeze the milk from that day). Or go for a couple of weeks at some point and use up the freezer stash, then freeze all the milk I pump during that time and use it up at the end of breastfeeding (we have it in a deep freeze and I'm planning to try to breastfeed for 12 months).
Re: Plans for the Freezer Stash?
just rotate it in. when i went back to work after DS, i defrosted my frozen stash to send with him to daycare on mondays. the rest of the week, i used the fresh stuff that i pumped at work the previous day. after a while, my stash was getting out of control (i was lucky and had a good supply), so i would rotate another one or two bottles a week of frozen in with the fresh stuff for daycare. i mixed the fresh and frozen together sometimes.
good luck with the stash, it creates great peace of mind to have that milk available!
