New Born Diaper Question (from Sept board)

Hi ladies, sorry to bug, I registered yesterday and am at a loss for diapering with the pampers dry max craziness going on. All the reviews say Pampers burn and smell and Huggies leak. Any recommendations??

THANKS!! And congrats to all of you!!!

Re: New Born Diaper Question (from Sept board)

  • Most people use DryMax with no problems (like me) but I switched over to Swaddlers Sensitive anyways. They are great and I think they are even more soft than the regular ones and don't use DryMax.

  • NB size luvs were great.

  • We are cloth diapering, but we did use disposables during the meconium phase.  The Pampers do stink, but DS did not have a reaction to them and they didn't leak too bad.  Huggies leaked everywhere.  We had to change his outfit everytime he went to the bathroom.

The Target Up and Up brand was okay - we had less leaks than the Huggies and they didn't smell like the Pampers.  You could also try Luvs?  I saw them in the store last week, but haven't heard anything about them.  My mom used those along with Pampers when we were little, but that is all I really know about them.

  • We used Huggies in nb size and they leaked.  But, in size one's they are fine.  I've also used Pampers, but I bought them before Dry Max came out.  The ones I love the most are the Babies R Us brand.  We're going to stick with them in the future unless I find a really good deal on Huggies.

  • i haven't had any trouble with the pampers dry max, so that's what we've been using.  i've heard good things about luvs as well!

You could always use cloth.  I haven't had any leaks, and I don't wash them because I'm using a diaper service.  It comes to about the same cost as disposables, and we've been really happy so far.

I still use Huggies NB and they're great for my LO. I didn't like the Pampers...I think every baby is different...
  • We used Huggies with no issues and DD had some explosive poops!  We also used some kind of Pampers that our diaper cake was made of, but they had a mesh lining that stuck to DD's bottom even when she was being changed every 2-3 hours.  Don't know what style those were though.

Same here.  We received tons of diapers at showers and noticed the Huggies in the red package were terrible when ds was in nb.  Now that he's in 1's they are actually ok.  I noticed they are smaller than the Pampers size 1 so we're using those up first, then moving to Swaddlers.  I haven't noticed ds having any reaction to Pampers at all.  That's all I used with my first son, and they were the best, they never leaked.

  • I've used both Pampers with dry max and Huggies. Neither one leaked nor caused any burns. There are a lot of people on this board who use both without issue. That said, I would probably stay away from Pampers. It's no big deal if a diaper leaks and you have to wash some clothes but a chemical burn on your naughty bits would suck. kwim?

There are other choices besides Pampers with dry max and Huggies. You could try something different.

  • I use pampers without issue but I've also used luvs and they work great.

  • I tried Pampers (gave Addison a chemical burn), Huggies (leaked), Target's Up and Up (pretty good), and Luvs (our favorite!!!)  The size 1 Luvs are a little smaller than the Up and Up size, so they fit better.

  • There's always cloth :)

We have had no issues with Pampers (we didn't use DryMax) or Huggies Pure & Natural.

  • When we use disposables we use Huggies Pure and Natural with no leaking.

Have you considered cloth? No chemicals. Fewer leaks. They really aren't all that hard. Most of them even fasten like disposables.

We had the same problem as the pp who said the mesh on Pampers stuck to her LO's bottom.  They were the drymax.  We switched to huggies NB and have had no problems.  They fit LO better too.  I wouldn't buy too many diapers before LO gets here...you never know what is going to work best on your kid's body.

  • We use huggies with no problems. I think it just depends on your baby's body shape. I hear a lot of people say huggies leak but for us they've worked great. I will say the NB huggies are really small. We didn't use those for long but the size 1's are fine.
