C-Section Mama's & Exercise

I had a c-section on 5/8 and have been taking it easy, just started going for walks this past week.  I'm feeling fine and wondering if it is too soon to start running again.  I have another week until I go to the dr. but am feeling overly antsy to get out there and do something.  Anyone start running/exercising soon after their surgery?

Re: C-Section Mama's & Exercise

  • Don't do it! It's honestly not worth the risk. Light exercise, like walking, is fine, but my Sr emphasized at my 2 week incision check that I should not do anything more strenuous until after the 6w check.

  • i wouldn't do it-- i did three loads of laundry (our laundry room is downstairs) and took the dog & landon for a walk on thursday and was in some serious pain on friday.  it's not worth it-- ease into it.  even though you feel fine and are healed on the outside, you're still healing on the inside.  better to wait a little bit than to overdo it and set yourself back, you know?

  • I would wait until you get the clearance from your Dr. I'm only one week PP so exercise is no where in my near future!

  • I did light walking from 2 weeks. I waited until after my PP appointment to begin truly exercising. I started at 6 weeks. I would wait if I were you.

  • Agreed, wait until yor next appt to get the ok!  I had a really speedy recovery with zero pain and my OB told me to not even attempt anything more than walking for the first 6 weeks.  I hear ya though - I'm so anxious to run again and lose these extra 25lbs!
  • I agree with the PPs about at least waiting until your 6 week appointment.  There is still a ton of healing going on internally and you don't want to overdo it.  I am about 2 weeks out from my c-section and I feel great, but can definitely tell when I did too much.

As much as it sucks, I would hold off on running for a little while longer.  GL!

  • Is this your 2 or 6 week appointment? If it's your 6 week (which I assume it is) I would probably start running as long as it doesn't hurt. I started exercising at 3 weeks but didn't get into anything strenuous until 5 weeks.
