Is it possible to give my boob a rest?

My DD can latch on to my left breast from across the street in the dark with her eyes closed. My right one however... a different story. She can get on eventually, but it is so painful. I have what is basically a nipple hickey from her sucking sooo hard with a bad latch. She gets frustrated with me for having to undo the bad latch so many zillions of times before she gets to eat from that side. I kind of feel like if I could just rest that nipple for a while we'd be able to get better at that side because I wouldn't be in agony. My left breast produces plenty of milk, and my right one is pretty good on the pump. So can I just give LO the left side and then pump the right side for a little while?

You certainly can.

You could also try a nipple shield.  That will give your nipple a break, help lo latch on and keep your supply in that boob up.

It depends on your body. I pump to build a stash, but I have noticed I get much more milk, faster when I pump after or while DS is feeding. Sometimes your breasts needs LO's sucking to bring in milk/produce more milk. I'd continue to try to get LO to latch - unless you are getting alot of milk when you pump. I can get at least 6 oz per boob (I never try for more).
